Berkeley Tuolumne Camp
Established in 1922, Berkeley Tuolumne Camp has been a cherished retreat for generations, offering families a rustic escape along the South Fork of the Tuolumne River near Yosemite National Park. In August 2013, the camp was devastated by the Rim Fire, one of California’s largest wildfires, which destroyed the majority of its structures.
The reconstruction project, initiated in May 2020, focused on revitalizing the 30-acre site while adhering to modern building codes and environmental standards. The rebuild included over 100 structures, such as a 10,000-square-foot dining hall, a 5,000-square-foot recreation hall, camper and staff cabins, and a 240-foot pedestrian bridge spanning the river. Sustainably harvested redwood was utilized to maintain the camp’s historic aesthetic and commitment to environmental stewardship. Completed in time for its centennial celebration in 2022, the camp’s design emphasizes accessibility, featuring ADA-compliant pathways and facilities to ensure an inclusive experience for all visitors.
